  • What is CCA cable and why do you not recommend it?

Copper coated aluminium is a budget cable. Although this type of cable will likely be fine for computers it is very problematic for ethernet powered devices like CCTV and phones. We only used Solid Copper Cable in our installations.

  • What's the difference between CAT5 and CAT6?

It's all about bandwidth over distance. Different grades of cable are capable of faster speeds over longer distances. We use CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a and even CAT7a depending on your requirements and budget.

  • What is shielded cable and why would I need it?

Shielded cable has a protective outer layer, sometimes inner ones too, to take away any electrical interference. This helps prevent "noise" or "cross talk" on the cable, that could interfere with communication between the devices. Shielded cable is recommended in areas where electrical interference could be a problem, also we use it for cabling up wireless access points.
